Redondo Beach, CA (Academy of the Pacific/Maryknoll HS)

  • He started 60 career matches at USC, while playing mainly at outside hitter but also at opposite hitter and libero

  • He helped USC to a pair of NCAA Final Four appearances (second place in 2009 and third place in 2011 when he made the NCAA All-Tournament Team)

  • As a 2011 senior, he was an All-American third teamer (hitting .326 with 245 kills) as USC won its first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship since 2000 and was ranked No. 1 nationally until the final poll

  • As a 2009 sophomore, he helped USC win its first MPSF Tournament ever and advance to the NCAAs for the first time since 1991

  • After USC, he played indoor volleyball professionally in Puerto Rico and Turkey

  • He switched to the beach in 2012 and has earned $416,500 in career prize money with seven first-place finishes (including twice on the FIVB Tour and four times on the AVP Tour), playing first mainly with John Hyden and since 2018 with Trevor Crabb

  • He and partner Trevor Crabb just missed qualifying for the 2021 Olympics (finishing third for the two available USA spots), but when Taylor Crabb (Trevor’s brother who qualified for the 2021 Games with Jake Gibb as the second USA team) tested positive for COVID and had to withdraw on July 21, Bourne was chosen by USA Volleyball to become Gibb’s partner;  they will be playing together for the first time ever

  • When Bourne finished playing with Hyden in 2016, Hyden was one of the beach’s oldest players at 43 years old;  Gibb is 45 years old

  • He co-hosts a popular beach volleyball podcast, SANDCAST

  • He attended Academy of the Pacific in Honolulu, HI., but played for Maryknoll High because AOP did not have a volleyball team (he helped Maryknoll win the 2006 Division II state volleyball title as a senior when he made All-State first team)

  • He was also played basketball in high school, where he was the 2007 Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II Co-Player of the Year

  • He was involved in canoe racing with the Outrigger Canoe Club
